The point of guns is for hunting, defending ourselves from criminals, and defending ourselves from currupt government. If the government knows who has guns and what guns they have, they can, when they become currupt enough or are taken over or infiltrated, mandate the removal of firearms, therefore leaving us vulnurable to them. Therefore, ideally the government should not know who has guns.
But we still want to know whose gun is whose in criminal trials. So we need a way for that. Perhaps we can make a committee whose job is to keep record of that and is never permitted to reveal it. It could be infiltrated, but we can have software that makes it harder to do that. It won't be perfect, but nothing is.
The government should also pass a national “stand your ground” law.
