Former Secretary of State Mike Pompeo on Monday criticized the Biden administration’s decision to abstain from a vote on a United Nations Security Council resolution calling for a cease-fire in Gaza, arguing it made Hamas and Iran happy.
“Hamas, when they saw the abstention, were thrilled,” Pompeo said on Fox News’s “The Story” with anchor Martha MacCallum.
“The Chinese Communist Party? Happier than heck. The Russians? Happier than heck. The Iranians? Absolutely beyond themselves, thrilled that the United States of America refused to stand up for its ally.”
“I think that’s so telling,” Pompeo continued. “That’s very risky, for every American, when you see the United States walk away from its long-term strategic ally and friend in the Middle East.”
The Security Council passed the legally binding cease-fire resolution Monday, with 14 votes in favor, none against and the U.S. abstention. It calls for an immediate cease-fire during the Muslim holy month of Ramadan and immediate release of hostages.
Following the U.S. abstention, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu canceled a government delegation’s visit to Washington. In a statement, the prime minister’s office said the abstention was “a clear departure from the consistent position of the United States at the Security Council since the beginning of the war.”
“The United States has abandoned its policy in the UN today,” the statement reads. “In light of the change in the US position, Prime Minister Netanyahu decided that the delegation will remain in Israel.”
White House national security spokesperson John Kirby said he was “disappointed” in the cancellation in a press call.

It’s shameful that the Biden Administration allowed the U.N. jackals to target Israel, all to help Biden’s poll numbers.
It is shameful that the snatched Israelis from their land does not become the first and foremost issue at the UN. The US is doing nothing to force Hamas to return these poor hostages.
@9CJ6CB62mos2MO
YES. THEY. ARE. Most every resolution has been accusing Hamas of crimes it didn’t even do sometimes, they’re MORE than focusing on dealing with the hostages. Israel hides behind that excuse all the time, yet they’ve killed the hostages MULTIPLE times.
@9CJ6CB62mos2MO
TARGET?! You’re kidding, they’re killing THOUSANDS with impunity and further encroaching on Palestine, killing their own hostages, unlawfully arresting hundreds, creating violent surveillance methods in Gazan neighborhoods, murdering unarmed civilians, and launching massive amounts of missiles over into the Israeli-made concentration camp that is Gaza then plays the victim. Israel knew for months ahead of time about the Hamas attack plan, but their lower levels disregarded it entirely, never even allowing it to reach the higher levels so they could claim ignorance, yet they moved… Read more

If abstaining from a vote could potentially lead to peace, would you support it, even if it makes an adversary happy?
@9L5FDLL2mos2MO
I would support to make the adversary happy because many spokesperson would be disappointed in the cancellation during a important press call.
@9CJ6CB62mos2MO
Absolutely, I’m here for what’s morally right, and that’s what a ceasefire is.
@9L5C4PCWomen’s Equality2mos2MO
I would just not give out my opinion on the situation.
@9L5BWD42mos2MO
I think that a Ceasefire vote to help those on the Gaza strip is extremely important. A ceasefire could save thousands of lives.
@9L5BBPG2mos2MO
I think there should be a ceasefire because the war needs to end.
