Should police departments be allowed to use military grade equipment?
Yes, but with strict training on how and when to use the equipment
Military weapons are built with the sole intention of neutralizing a threat, that is, to do significant harm up to the point of death. Instead, there shall be more funding for the appropriate training for police officers, the requirements to become a police officer shall be reviewed and in general, police training schemes from foreign countries, such as Germany or Finland, should be adopted. Prospective police officers should be subjected to a series of mental and physical tests in order to crack down on police corruption and abuse of power.
Military weapons should only be used in the utmost emergency, but they should not be accessible to the general police force, but to a small elite unit instead. These should not necessarily be police in the traditional sense, but work closely with the police.
